Geopolitical Developments

Impacts on the Supply Chains

Geopolitical situation

Global logistics continues to be heavily influenced by geopolitical developments. Trade conflicts, regional wars and sanctions are causing lasting changes to supply chains. Current developments in the Middle East, in particular, are creating uncertainties regarding sea and air freight. Due to constrained freight capacities as well as the impact on energy prices resulting from the war in Iran, there is a risk of rising transport costs and longer delivery times.

Relevant shipping methods

To meet the diverse requirements of our customers, we, Sye Europe GmbH, offer tailored transport solutions for various product types. In essence, you have three main freight options available:

Express air freight – particularly for samples, pre-series and ramp-up requirements

Air freight – particularly for pre-series, small series and products with short time-to-market cycles

Sea freight – the most cost-efficient solution for mass production goods and therefore the preferred shipping method for stocking our warehouses

Express freight

Restrictions and closures at key air freight hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi are impacting global air cargo capacity. In addition, oil and jet fuel prices are rising. These developments may affect pricing for express shipments.

At present, we are not observing any significant delays or unusual price increases in the area of express freight. Of course, we are closely monitoring the situation on your behalf and will inform you immediately should any relevant changes occur.

Air freight

Air freight shipments are subject to the same uncertainties as our express deliveries. Due to closed airspaces, restricted air freight hubs and rising oil and jet fuel prices, there is a risk of price increases and supply bottlenecks.

Similar to our express shipments, no impacts on prices or delivery times have been observed so far with regard to our air freight shipments.

Sea freight

So far, our sea freight shipments have not been affected by delays or price increases.

However, the war in Iran is increasingly impacting oil and gas transports through the Strait of Hormuz. This is leading to price spikes in petrol, diesel and kerosene, which may result in higher transport costs.

Our solutions

Logistical concepts

SYE Europe GmbH supports its customers with various logistics and supply models in order to offer cost- and lead-time-optimized solutions. Due to the current geopolitical tensions and their impact on international transport routes, stable delivery times remain a challenge for many companies.

Even though we have not yet observed any significant effects on delivery times or prices, a flexible storage and logistics structure is crucial to safeguard supply chains and reliably support production processes.

To provide our customers with maximum planning security in geopolitically uncertain times, we offer various warehousing and supply models. In doing so, we enable the greatest possible independence from risks within the supply chain.

Early planning creates security

Close coordination in forecasting, demand planning and delivery models help to identify risks at an early stage and maintain stable supply chains. Together with our customers, we develop solutions that ensure both security of supply and competitive overall costs.

Buffer stock in Europe / call-off stock

Rolling buffer stocks in Europe allow short-term demand fluctuations or delays in international transport to be reliably offset.

Our FIFO system ensures that the shelf life of printed circuit boards is taken into account and that product overstocking is reliably avoided.

Through framework agreements with call-off orders, total demand can be planned over the long term, while individual deliveries are made flexibly as needed. This creates planning security for both sides and simplifies the ordering process.

Consignment stock

Another option is our consignment stock offering. In this model, we store goods directly at your site, while ownership remains with us until the actual withdrawal. You benefit from immediate material availability while simultaneously reducing your capital commitment.

Based on forecast and consumption data, we monitor our customers’ inventory levels. Materials are reproduced at an early stage and delivered on time. This reduces planning effort while also lowering the risk of supply shortages.

Supporting processes

Through digital data exchange via EDI/Web-EDI interfaces, demand planning in the form of forecasts, delivery schedules, orders and call-offs can be transferred more quickly, accurately, and automatically between ERP systems. This reduces manual effort and accelerates coordination.

Digital tracking and supply chain monitoring tools help us identify potential delays at an early stage and respond more quickly to changes.
